I have often said that you can take these quick art journal studies and turn them into design motifs for surface pattern design. This bird is on fabric and wallpaper at Spoonflower! I used mostly Artecho oil pastels and the lovely silver from Sennelier in my Strathmore toned tan art journal. You know that I love this paper! This bird is a bit wonky in its proportions, but I like the quirkiness that it gives to the seamless pattern. I have a video at the bottom of the post. The blue and green ... View the Post
Colored Pencils Building & More on My Art Table
I grabbed my Prismacolor colored pencils for this fun building that reminds me of an old church-like structure from a couple of hundred year ago-ish. :) This building is not structurally sound, but it was fun to draw. I used Canson Graduate paper in grey. It has a mild tooth, which makes it great for diverse media, while still smooth enough for colored pencils. I added details with my white and gold gel pens. Here are my friends! :) It's an earthy palette tody. By the way, I LOVE this ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Barn Landscape Painting & VIDEO
I really enjoyed painting this farm landscape in oil pastels. I love the calm colors and texture that the oil pastels bring. I like to make my backgrounds creamy to offset the more textural parts. It is a simple color palette for a simple scene. I wish society would slow down and appreciate people and skills over pleasure. A girl can dream. :) I used my favorite Strathmore toned tan paper with Artecho and Mungyo Gallery pastels. I have a video at the bottom of the post. Thanks for your time, ... View the Post
Quick Kuretake Watercolor Florals on Canson
There are days that I just need to create a bunch of smaller paintings to satisfy my creative itch. Kuretake paints are wonderful to use, with their big pans and rich colors. I have almost all of the sets! :) My favorites are the moody shadows and graphite colors. I love that you can buy individual pans, since there are certain colors that I use quite often. I used Canson Graduate cream mixed media paper. I got a great deal from Blick! The dark purple!!! I added some ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Bowl of Fruit Still Life
This art journal entry is some still life fruit. I decided to work in my Dylusions black paper journal from Ranger ink. Instead of using the whole page, I divided it in half to save for another entry, since this one was kind of long and skinny. I started right in on the fruit first with my oil pastels, then filled in the background afterwards. Here are a few step-by-step photos below! Sadly, the washi tape that I used stuck a bit when I pulled it off at the end, so now I ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Hummingbird on Toned Tan Paper
I am often in the mood to paint birds, as they come in so many delicate shapes and colors. Oil pastels are the perfect medium to mimic textural feathers. I made the background creamy and smooth, and used my Derwent Inktense pencils for some details. I don't have a video of this one, but I have tons of paintings on my YouTube channel! :) I love using Strathmore toned tan paper. This painting is a wee one because I had a smaller square shape leftover from another project. Did you ... View the Post
