I'm giving this Soho oil pastel paper pad another go. I love how the florals turned out, but I did still find it harder to blend on this paper rather than my favorite Strathmore or Canson papers. Nevertheless, it is still nice paper with perforation edging and protective sheets between each page to prevent smudging. Among other brands, I used some of my favorite colors from Mungyo Gallery oil pastels! I taped off the edges with washi and started blocking in the flowers to get an idea of the ... View the Post
Colored Pencils on Strathmore Toned Tan Paper
I saw a lovely old-fashioned photo in a magazine and thought the simple color palette would be perfect for my Prismacolor colored pencils in my Strathmore toned tan paper journal. The tan really makes the white colored pencil pop! I also tried a small piece of architecture. To be honest, colored pencils on this amazing paper is addicting. You don't need a lot of colors to make an interesting drawing. Colored pencils are also perfect for travel! Colored pencils were my first art supply love, ... View the Post
Abstract Sketchbook Idea & VIDEO
Every now and then, I try out some abstract art ideas. I stayed within my Kuretake watercolor paints, so the color palette coordination was easy! I have a video at the bottom of the post. It isn't hard to paint a bunch of shapes, so I hope that you give it a try. I loved how it turned out so much that I created a surface pattern design for fabric and wallpaper. If you are looking for sketchbook ideas, geometric, simple shapes may be what you should try next! When dry, you can doodle on them ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Whimsical Cake & VIDEO
The best cakes have zero calories! :) I don't paint food very much, but this fancy cake was in a magazine. It had cascading purple and gold botanicals on fluffy white frosting. I painted on Canson Graduate XL gray paper, which is smooth with just enough texture for the oil pastels to grab on to. I also used my Prismacolor colored pencils for some details, and Sennelier gold for some shimmering finishing touches. Do you like to draw and paint food? Food is a great subject to paint ... By the Sea Oil Pastel Painting on Toned Paper
I was flipping through a lovely magazine and saw a beautiful photo of a historical building built right at the edge of the sea. The colors were simple giving off terra cotta vibes, which looked lovely by the bright blue waters. The waves were creating that fun, foamy white hitting the rocks that were scattered by the shore. This is my simple oil pastel version. I also used my Prismacolor colored pencils for some of the details. I love using Strathmore toned tan paper with my colored pencils ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Greenery Painting & VIDEO
I wanted to paint an arrangement that featured a lot of greenery, so I grabbed my Strathmore toned blue journal and taped the edges with washi. I love the color palette of this as the lavender-ish hues set off the green well. Don't be afraid to put flecks of color in unexpected places! I put some bright blue on the pot that holds these plants. Sometimes, those bits of color can really add pleasing effect. I mostly used Mungyo Gallery oil pastels for this. They have an amazing set in a wooden ... View the Post
