This little space shuttle (rocket) painting was definitely not what I usually gravitate towards, but I wanted to try something storybook-ish and fun. :) I created a seamless pattern (available at Spoonflower) in fabric and wallpaper. You can see the examples below. So cute and spacey! I used oil pastels, topped with Sennelier iridescent pastels that give the perfect metallic shimmer. Get the fabric here! ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Blue Floral Spray & VIDEO
Today, I'm showing the simple steps used to paint the spray of blue flowers. I'm using my best friend, toned tan paper, and sketched with a charcoal pencil. I created the underpainting with Prismacolor colored pencils, then layered on the oil pastels. It is amazing how they brighten everything! I mostly used Mungyo Gallery (from Korea). They are among my favorite pastels and very affordable. Video below! Creamy and bright! Here is a weird picture of the art supplies used. ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Bird Painting & VIDEO
I know, more birds. :) What can I say? I love to paint them! This brown thrush turned out so peaceful (VIDEO BELOW). In the pictures below, you can see some of the steps and layers. I lightly sketch, then I used colored pencils for shading and blocking in color. Oil pastels are then layered for vibrant, creamy texture! I love making surface pattern designs with these paintings! They are perfect for paper crafting, fabric, and wallpaper! ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Hummingbird Painting & VIDEO
I love painting birds, because they vary so much in shape and color. I'm using Strathmore toned paper art journal with a colored pencil underpainting. Then, I just layer up the creamy oil pastels! It is so relaxing and helps my mind to be calm and centered. Art just does that. Creativity can be a very healthy mental exercise! VIDEO BELOW. I have over 1,500 videos on my channel! You can also purchase this painting in an ornate frame as a digital clip art set here! Use the shopping drop-down ... View the Post
Kuretake Watercolor Flower Girls & VIDEO
I painted these as a fun experiment with lots of rich watercolors from Kuretake Gansai Tambi. I have a VIDEO below! It's fun to let the colors flow into each other for a more organic result. These paints are so rich, a lot of layering is not required. I wonder what it would be like to have flowers for hair? :) I love Japanese watercolors. They have a certain richness that my other paints don't have (I love those too). I also love the larger pans, which are great for larger ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Purple Forest & VIDEO
Check out the video below! I had fun painting this purple forest in oil pastels. I love nature, and I hope you watch the video and try to paint along with me! These have been crazy days with two viruses and some heavy family issues to get sorted. The Creator is faithful! I love using Strathmore toned paper. I taped the edges for that satisfying pull-away moment. :) "I am at home among the trees." J.R.R. Tolkien I quite agree! There is something so calming about trees. ... View the Post
