This painting was done in my Art Talens art journal. I love how it looks! Yellow is such a happy color, and the combination of HIMI gouache and water soluble oil pastels work very well together. There is a video below, and I also created some designs. Don't be afraid to mix your media! ... View the Post
Tombow Brush Marker Watercolor Flowers
The simplicity of using Tombow Dual Brush Watercolor Markers is perfect for artists of all levels. They travel well, are not messy, and are great for lettering, painting, journals, and planners. They are my favorite markers. The color range is amazing! Whether it is painting a landscape or coloring a stamped image on a card, they give amazing color. Here, I've used them in a very simple flower. I was experimenting with a wet-on-wet technique. I've created a seamless pattern (see below). It ... View the Post
Strathmore Mixed Media Postcard & VIDEO!
With postage constantly going up, postcards may be the best way to send a card and note! Of course, you can cut down watercolor paper to a 6 x 4 inch size, but these Strathmore postcards are great too! The lines for the address and stamp are already on the back. I've used Koi watercolor in the tubes with HIMI gouache for this postcard. I would suggest using media that will travel well in the elements. You could also seal it with clear gesso or a fixative spray. ... View the Post
One Stroke Style Acrylic Painting
Here is an older painting I haven't posted yet. This painting features acrylic paint on toned tan paper. I love the layers and streaky sort of variegation that you get when combing multiple paint colors on the brush at the same time! Strathmore toned tan paper holds a variety of media, as long as there isn't heavy water involved. The tan color sets off a painting nicely! ... View the Post
Watercolor Pitcher of Tulips & Process Video
I was inspired to paint these tulips from a lovely photo in a Daphne's Diary magazine. It had gorgeous flowers organically placed in one of those ceramic pitchers with blue flowers on them. It reminded me of something I would see at the Henry Ford Museum. I have always loved ceramics, and I have always loved flowers. :) This was fun to paint in watercolor with touches of gouache for opacity. ... View the Post
Mixed Media Art Journal Page
I had some ink and paint down on an art journal page in my Art Creations journal. If I'm not feeling creative or have extra paint from a project, I plop it down on random art journal pages so there is a starting point for a future art journaling session. I've used watercolor, inks, and oil pastels-basically, whatever was on my desk. :) These pages don't always turn out the prettiest, but art journals are great opportunities to practice and become familiar with various art supplies. ...
