I was inspired to paint these tulips from a lovely photo in a Daphne's Diary magazine. It had gorgeous flowers organically placed in one of those ceramic pitchers with blue flowers on them. It reminded me of something I would see at the Henry Ford Museum. I have always loved ceramics, and I have always loved flowers. :) This was fun to paint in watercolor with touches of gouache for opacity. ... View the Post
Mixed Media Art Journal Page
I had some ink and paint down on an art journal page in my Art Creations journal. If I'm not feeling creative or have extra paint from a project, I plop it down on random art journal pages so there is a starting point for a future art journaling session. I've used watercolor, inks, and oil pastels-basically, whatever was on my desk. :) These pages don't always turn out the prettiest, but art journals are great opportunities to practice and become familiar with various art supplies. ... Gouache Floral Painting & Tutorial Video
Here is another painting on Strathmore's Toned Tan paper! I've used mostly HIMI gouache for this painting. I love echoing the colors of the flowers on the vase. I've cut this paper to a 5 x 7 inch rectangle to either be framed or used as a card. I've also created a seamless pattern that includes this floral, as well as some other recent paintings. ... Watercolor & Oil Pastel Painting with VIDEO!
I pulled out my dagger brush from Simply Simmons to create most of the leaves you see behind the central flower. (video tutorial below) I used water soluble oil pastels for the flowery parts. My favorites are from Portfolio and Ha Shi Aquarelle. Oil pastels and watercolors work well together! The dagger brush was perfect to create broad strokes. I love creating seamless patterns for paper and fabric! ... View the Post
Loose Watercolor Florals with Jane Davenport Palette & Video
I like to rotate my watercolor palettes. This (pictured later in the post) is one of Jane Davenport's palettes that she released a few years ago. It has rich, ocean-like colors and tones. I wasn't feeling well, so I painted a quick, loose floral in my Strathmore visual watercolor journal. It is amazing how helpful it can be to our minds to even paint for a short time! Check out the video tutorial below! ... View the Post
Water Soluble Oil Pastel Painting (Tutorial Video)
I really love how this painting came together! I started with watercolors for the stems and leaves, then switched to Portfolio and Ha Shi oil pastels for the rest. Because these oil pastels are water soluble, they are easy to blend as you are painting! I collaged several of the flowers together, along with some of my painted birds, for a lovely motif that I used to create seamless patterns. ... View the Post
