Sometimes, I like to just start with an ink sketch and go from there. After drawing, I painted with watercolor, some colored pencils, and Posca paint pens. Pastel Painting of Sailboats
This peaceful painting was done with a light watercolor base, then soft pastels. By using a few different brands, you can have varying hardness, giving different textures. I love boats and mountains! It reminds me of Tolkien's elves sailing off to the Undying Lands. I taped the edges of the watercolor paper onto a thick board to prevent buckling.
