I have always loved the water. It is powerful and peaceful at the same time. Though this piece has a bit of bleeding and a tear, I still love it! Soft pastels are so easy to use and leave wonderful texture! Below are some of the steps to achieve this end. Of course, you can use pastel paper, but I have found that decent watercolor paper also provides great "tooth" for the pastels. ... View the Post
Hand-Painted Cards
I've been painting a lot on quality papers that aren't necessarily designed for paints. Since acrylic paint doesn't need a lot of water, it's a perfect choice for black drawing paper or Strathmore's Toned Tan paper. Simply trim to size and mount on a card blank. Old Bridge in Oil Pastel

I added flowers and bushes along the bank. The oil pastels layer wonderfully on the watercolor background. This was all done on regular watercolor paper. Oil pastels are a joy to use. They are buttery and give great texture! ... View the Post
Whimsical Horse in Soft Pastel
I grew up riding and showing horses, mostly Morgans. Horses are amazing animals. They are strong, loyal, hard-working, practical, easy to train, and beautiful. I know all of the Lord's creation is good, but horses are near perfection. This horse was created using soft pastels with varying hardness (by means of various brands) on watercolor paper.
