These blueberries were painted with the Arrtx acrylic brush markers. I love that by using acrylic paint, you can keep them opaque or dilute with water for a more transparent look. After painting the blueberries, I used my Rosa Gallery watercolors to give a purple "shadow". I love the look! I created a surface pattern design that I have available at Spoonflower in fabric and wallpaper. :) I love my Posca paint pens, but these are much more affordable and do a great job! I have painted many ... View the Post
Oil Pastels on Black Drawing Paper
This black drawing paper is thick enough to hold oil pastels. I love the contrast! The flowers are done without and blending, but the butterfly shows how smooth oil pastels can be. Either way, they are creamy and give great texture to your art. ... View the Post
Shimmery, Painted Bugs!
Bugs! They are so cute (when they aren't alive inside the house). :) They are so interesting to look at, with their various shapes and amazing colors. For these little guys, I used Kuretake watercolors and dropped shimmery gold in while the paint was still wet. I love making designs with my little paintings! This one below can be wallpaper or fabric from Spoonflower! ... View the Post
Mixed Media Board
Sometimes, you just have to collage. There are days when I don't have a plan, or am not feeling well enough to be creative. Making a mixed media "board" is the perfect thing to do! I used mixed media paper, taped it off to create two sections, and started by gluing down some gel-printed rice paper. The steps are as you see below in the following pictures. I added gesso, scaped soft pastels and activated with water, stamped, and splattered. I removed the tape and ended up with ... View the Post
Peach & Blackberry Acrylic Marker Painting
I have recently been having fun with Arrtyx Acrylic markers. I love my Posca paint pens, but they can be very pricey! I still love my Posca white marker the best, but these are very close! They can be used as is for a bolder look, or blended with water (as I have done here) for a more painterly look. The brush tips are the right balance of sturdy and bendy. :) I also used my Winsor and Newton Cotman Travel watercolor for the underpainting. This is a great little travel set! In a ... View the Post
Mixed Media Art Talens Journal Botanicals
I love working in my art journal! In this painting, I have used watercolors and colored pencils. I love how the pencils give boldness, detail, and texture to watercolors. I also used a little ink to add a few line details. Mixed media is a great way to use the strengths of each medium. I love how watercolor and pencils help one another. Making a swatch of the colors that you use can help you visualize how to fill in the "gaps". Plus, swatches can be pretty on their own. :) ... View the Post
