I love painting birds! They are not always realistic, but every now and then, they are relatively close. 🙂 I love how this dove-like bird came out! I used my colored pencils for an underpainting, then finished with oil pastels. Oil pastels bring a creamy texture to paintings with wonderful color vibrancy. Just be sure to seal you final painting, as the pastels can take a long, long time to dry (if ever). 🙂

I like the different effects you can get with oil pastels, from a palette knife style, to smoothing them out with your fingers (or a blending stump).
