Animal storybook characters have always been a favorite. π To this day, when I go to a bookstore, I love to peruse the children’s storybook shelves. I love the variety of artwork used in storytelling. Kids really do remember things well with visual aids (and adults too). There is something precious about personified animals, in a Narnian sense.
I was very sad at what the government did to Peanut the Squirrel. It’s exactly the sort of nonsensical evil that infuriates us all. This squirrel was inspired by him.
I used my Prismacolor colored pencils for the underpainting layer. Oil pastels were then used for the rest of the painting. I love how heroic he looks. π
