I painted these as a fun experiment with lots of rich watercolors from Kuretake Gansai Tambi. I have a VIDEO below! It's fun to let the colors flow into each other for a more organic result. These paints are so rich, a lot of layering is not required. I wonder what it would be like to have flowers for hair? :) I love Japanese watercolors. They have a certain richness that my other paints don't have (I love those too). I also love the larger pans, which are great for larger ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Purple Forest & VIDEO
Check out the video below! I had fun painting this purple forest in oil pastels. I love nature, and I hope you watch the video and try to paint along with me! These have been crazy days with two viruses and some heavy family issues to get sorted. The Creator is faithful! I love using Strathmore toned paper. I taped the edges for that satisfying pull-away moment. :) "I am at home among the trees." J.R.R. Tolkien I quite agree! There is something so calming about trees. ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Gourd Painting and VIDEO
This gourd was fun to paint in oil pastels! My inspiration was from a magazine. Gourds can have interesting striations, but I added some whimsical colors as well. There is a video below of the process! I used (mostly) Paul Rubens Haiya oil pastels, as I love their creamy texture and colors. Here is an example of a seamless surface pattern design that I created with the gourd and my other paintings. So fun! ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Feather Trio
Feathers are fun! They have beautiful patterns and colors. The intricate detail of texture and softness are an amazing design by the Creator! I painted three different feathers in oil pastels (there is a YouTube short below) and created a seamless pattern that you can find at Spoonflower in both wallpaper and fabric. :) I'm often inspired by our own quirky chickens. This is the seamless surface design pattern that I created. I love the colors! HERE ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Storybook Cat & VIDEO
I've been painting storybook characters for children's book ideas. There is something so fun about personified animals! I also love history, so this chat noir must wear his finest. :) I used colored pencils to draw him out, the layered oil pastels. I used the gold in Sennelier's iridescent set for his clothing details. VIDEO BELOW! ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Orange Fruit Branch Painting
This black paper from Arteza is great for oil pastels! I love the instant dramatic touch black brings to a painting. This paper hold up well to oil pastels, soft pastels, and even gouache! The world of art papers can be overwhelming, but there are many great choices that are affordable. As long as you don't use too much water, this paper is great for mixed media. I love creating surface patterns designs from my art! I sell it as digital paper, fabric, and wallpaper! Thanks for ... View the Post
